Pat's Ponderings - Thanks Giving

In the USA and other parts of the world, November is a month of thanksgiving, historically due to the bountiful harvest of fruits, vegetables, and grain. Thanksgiving today has expanded to include thankfulness for all sorts of bounty in our lives. So this November, let us as coaches remember to not only give thanks for the wonderful opportunities we have to assist our clients in moving toward optimal living, but also for the wonderful career that allows us to make a living in the service of others through coaching.

Many of you know of my nonprofit Coaching the Global Village where I assist in finding pro-bono coaching and low cost coach training for the staffs of nonprofits. Our most recent event occurred this past summer in Costa Rica where we partnered with Above the Line Coaching to train a group of high-potential community leaders in the small town of Cobano to act as peer coaches. The second workshop is scheduled for February, 2010.

In addition, I am connected to the consortium of five nonprofit coaching organizations through CoachesCare.org. For those interested, there is a monthly Mastermind discussion of the vision and mission of Coaches Care, open to all Practice Pay Solutions' clients and partners. The next one meets November 18th.

There are many other opportunities as well. One of our senior teachers Susie Strauss has opportunities for coaching women with her organization One to One: Women Coaching Women. (See article below for more information).

See also the  Gift of Coaching  sponsored by the Coaching Commons, where you can view a list of organizations that are offering opportunities to get involved. Each organization has a special mission and specific set of goals.

How can you give back this season? Could you offer a gift of coaching to someone? Where could you volunteer? Coaching is after all a service industry. Your service could be beneficial to someone out of work, or someone in need of making a some other kind of transition successfully. Please look for opportunities to share your gift of service and let me hear your story.

As always.

Special Announcement

I am very happy to announce that ILCT has merged with a larger company with a huge vision and ILCT is now a division of LifeOptions™ (www.lifeoptions.com). LifeOptions™ is an organization that will enable us to reach a wider audience, offer new client programs, and expand our training and coaching opportunities. For many months now prior to this announcement, ILCT has been actively engaged with LifeOptions™ leadership in applying our life coaching best practices to their online tools. In fact two of their executive team have taken our training, Lyle Labardee, President of LifeOptions™ who trained earlier this year, and Jay Ostrowski, Director of Business Development.

The good news is ILCT is not going away and neither am I! ILCT will continue to do all that it does AND we have an opportunity to play an integral part in the rollout of what we feel will become the industry-leading platform for online coaching. Lots more to announce in the coming weeks … stay tuned!

With sincere appreciation and anticipation,
Pat

One to One Women Coaching Women
by Susie Strauss, ACC

One to One Women Coaching WomenOne to One Women Coaching Women (OTO) is a national non-profit organization that provides life coaching at no cost to women across the United States who could not ordinarily afford it. Since it’s creation five years ago, not only have over 100 women received life coaching, it has formed a strong community of female coaches who believe in service and giving back to their community.

We all know that life coaching is an incredible service that inspires individuals to take great strides in various directions in their lives. We also know that it’s a service that is not accessible to everyone and often the people who could benefit the most are the people who can’t get it. Working with OTO is a rewarding opportunity for female coaches to offer their coaching skills to women in need. OTO also offers monthly training sessions and non-profit leadership positions to its coaches.

Through OTO, individual women are supported in advancing their lives, which transpires throughout their relationships with their families, friends and communities. The touch of coaching into the community has large impact. If you are interested in being a coach with OTO, referring a client, or want to know more about the organization please check out http://www.youtube.com/user/Sushcoach and/or contact us at www.onotoone.info. Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert

This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched a nerve among both readers and reviewers. Elizabeth Gilbert tells how she made the difficult choice to leave behind all the trappings of modern American success (marriage, house in the country, career) and find, instead, what she truly wanted from life. Setting out for a year to study three different aspects of her nature amid three different cultures, Gilbert explored the art of pleasure in Italy and the art of devotion in India, and then a balance between the two on the Indonesian island of Bali.
